in today's watchtower study, towards the end, you had one of those typical comments by a former df'ed witness expressing appreciation for being shunned.
these comments always remind me of a stalinist show trial in which the accused enthusiastically accepts being executed for the greater good (probably to save his family).. after this kind of nonsense is expressed, you will get a flurry of self righteous comments emphasizing how important it is to shun your disfellowshipped relatives, so that they can come back in the "truth".. oh, really?
do any of these people raising their hand realize that, if the "success" of disfellowshipping depends on your shunning, then the "repentant" person is "coming back in the truth" for the sake of their relatives -and not because of fearing jehovah !!!???.
I was sitting at the watchtower study yesterday in amaizment listening to people commenting that paragraph.
One elderly sister related an experience from her life. They were 7 siblings in the family and one of her younger brothers was dissfelloweshipped. She said that all her siblings terminated association with him. And he wanted to communicate with them so much that he came back to the Thruth later. Another experience was given by the brother WT-study conductor. His best friend came back to the orgnization because he missed his family and friends.
For me it was like WTF!!!! People, don't you see that the only reason these people came back was a severe emotional/pcychological pressure imposed by the organization??? that has nothing to do with truthfullnes of the religion....
What a distorted religion...
nope, didnt really even think about what night it was.
last one was 1998 and i just felt it was meaningless.
oz
1998 was probably the first time i went to the memorial :)))
Went there this year as well, met a lot of new people. As an overseer of our group said, there are more ex-witnesses in out town then actual witnesses :)))
the new wt is up.
the worst article is the first one, a non-study article.
shows pictures of a kid, looks like he is 10 years old.
wow, on page 27 picture form the cover of elder's secret manual... R&F JW's do not even have a hint of that :)))
i don't really care to download it and review it and see how it's the same old same old - but i do like to read up on others doing it here.
:) i'm a lazy leach like that.. so - get to it guys.. www.jw.org.
edit: haha- i said 2001 in the title - meant 2011.
From the deathnote of br. John (Jack) Barr:
A tragic accident that almost cost his dear
mother her life caused young Jack to think
seriously about the purpose of life, and in
1929 he dedicated himself to Jehovah, symbolizing
his dedication at the first opportunity,
in 1934.
Strange, such a big gap between dedication and baptizm.
Does anybody know what was going on with young Johnny in the early 30's?
i was wondering if the elders manual is available yet in other languages?
i personaly (as well as my friends on the dutch apostate forum) would be very interested in the dutch version of the manual.
any news on this?.
I wish my dad was an elder, I would definitely scan it while he's on holiday. But too bad... he is not an elder.
From the letter to BOE (October 7, 2010):
"Since the release of the new Shepherding textbook, several elders have asked about the
possibility of having their textbook spiral bound. There is no objection if an elder personally spiral
binds or laminates his own textbook or does so for other elders. If he has another baptized
brother who is not an elder do the work for him, the elder must watch while the work is being
done. Outside companies, unbelievers, or sisters are not permitted to do this work. The material
in the book is confidentiaJ, and confidentiality must be preserved".
Would suggest you think twice before doing something like that

I am also a member of Russian forum of this kind... no elder book leak there so far...
last night i went to caltech to listen to mr dawkins.
what a most pleasant man to listen.
intelligent, assertive, witty, funny.
Hey guys, I also like Dawkins more and more
Do you know where to find announcements of his lectures?
i thought it would be an interesting exercise to ask everybody on here what their 'top 10 reasons why jws don't have the truth' actually were.
maybe we can see some correlating views/patterns/ideas that may help us de-programme the newbies that come on this site.
if eventually most people have an outstanding gripe/concern it'll help everybody understand the ex-jw mindset a little better.
I think I could still live with the first five reasons you mensioned in your list.
For me the bigget reason is proud self-appointment of the organization as a sole channel of communication with god.
And this pride, I believe, lead to other things such as lack of love (since we are already chosen and only our obidience to God and his repressentatives is what determins our salvation), manipulation with prophecies, dates and doctrines (God reveals light only through his appointed channal - FDS), problems with peadophilia is a result of constant effort to make organisation clean (to prove that it is chosen by god) in the eyes of outsiders and so on.
As Ray Franz mansioned in his book, JW 'are the captives of concept' ant the concept is the organization.
